Albert "Pete" Kyle

Albert "Pete" Kyle is the Charles E. Smith Chair Professor of Finance and a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, where he has served since 2006. Previously, he held professorial appointments at Princeton University (1981–1987), University of California, Berkeley (1987–1992), and Duke University (1992–2006).

Research & Teaching Focus

Kyle’s research lies at the intersection of finance, economics, and market microstructure. He investigates how information is incorporated into prices, the effects of high-frequency trading, the causes and consequences of market manipulation, and the propagation of liquidity shocks. His teaching portfolio spans market microstructure, institutional asset management, venture capital and private equity, corporate finance, and derivative pricing.

He served on the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms (Brady Commission, 1987), consulted for the SEC, CFTC, and U.S. Department of Justice, and sat on the economic advisory boards of NASDAQ (2004–2007) and FINRA (2010–2014). He also served on the CFTC Technology Advisory Committee (2010–2012) and the board of the American Finance Association (2004–2006).
